Christmas baking with my girlfriends was cancelled this weekend, but this is one of the recipes we would have used. This recipe is one of the two Christmas treats my mom would make when we were growing up.
Toffee Squares
1 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1 t. vanilla
2 c. flour
1/4 t. salt
1 pkg. chocolate chips
Mix butter, sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla. Stir in flour and salt. Spread in a rectangle on a greased baking sheet, leaving about 1" all around the edge of the baking sheet. Bake 20-25 mins. at 350. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Let stand until soft and then spread evenly. Cut into small squares while warm.
